History of the department

The department of special education was established in 1965, by four assistant lecturers. The department had a tight bondage with external coworkers such as the physicians, researchers, school principals for children with special needs. The first head of the special education department was Ph.Dr. Josef Sasín, CSc. PaedDr. Ladislav Stejgrle, who has already participated on the establishment of the department began to work here on July 1st 1968.
A the beginning all staff members have concentrated mainly on the establishment of a well organized, professional and economic department. From 1968 the department was located at Univerzitní square No.1

From the beginning the department was providing full time and distant study courses.
The department was organizing important seminars and international meetings. The staff members were contributing to various publishing activities.

The establishment of the club of special education was initiated earlier by the students and in 1986 PaedDr. L.Ludiková and PaedDr. Peutelschmiedová continued its tradition by becoming it’s supervisors. The content of the club was to organize various seminars, excursions, teacher and student meetings.

In 1987 PhDr. Drahomíra Holoušová, CSc. became the head of the department.

From 1990-1991 the department was located at Tř. 17 Listopadu. From 1991 till today the department is located at Žižkovo nám. No. 5. PhDr. Jaroslav Kysučan, CSc. was the head of the department from 1991-1999. Doc. PaedDr. Libuše Ludiková, CSc. has been the head of department since September 1998 till today.
