Help Centre for Disabled

Description of services:

The Help Centre for the Disabled at the Department of Special Education of the Pedagogical Faculty of Palacký University in Olomouc provides complex services to students and staff of Palacký University in Olomouc with any category of disablement, with specific learning disorder or communication difficulties.

• Personal assistance – interpretation into sign language or signed Czech, oral interpretation; arrangement of mobility of students with serious visual handicap and with serious mobility disorder;
• Adaptation of study materials – scanning; conversion of black-and-white print and into Braille script; transcription of audio recordings of lectures and seminars; zooming of study texts, final digitalisation and print;
• Counselling and guidance activity – consultations with students, mediation of contacts, consultations with teachers and student’s family, consultations with the staff of university facilities, consultations with broader public; solution of current problematic life situations; consultations of legislative problems; methodical help, differential diagnostics, individual education of specific skills (lip reading, reading the Braille script, etc.);
• Material and technical equipment – purchase and modernisation of instrumental equipment (including mobile equipment), provision of consumption material; lending of specialised literature, copying services;
• grant, publication, education and training activities – mediation of financial support to students and their personal assistants, participation in the realisation of our own grant projects and projects of other organisations (university and non-university); publication activity; organisation of expert meetings, workshops; participation in specialised conferences, seminars and courses; training of tutors and assistants; training of university teachers and staff.
